Oklahoma law restricts who can get a certified birth certificate. Title 63, Section 1-323 lists the eligible parties. The law was tightened in November 2016.

Eligible people include the person on the record (of legal age), a parent on the certificate, a legal guardian with court papers, and an attorney with signed authorization. Extended family members like spouses, stepparents, grandparents, and adult children need authorization from the subject and proof of relationship. A clear copy of a valid photo ID must be sent with every request.

Accepted ID types include:

  • U.S. driver's license or state ID

  • Military photo ID
  • Tribal photo ID card with signature
  • Resident alien card or employment authorization

Never send your original ID. A photocopy works. Birth records 125 years old or more are open records. You still pay the fee and show ID, but eligibility proof is not needed.
